La Banquise, Montreal

La Banquise Rating: 💜💜💜 📍994 Rue Rachel E Montréal, QC H2J 2J3 Canada 📞  (514) 525-2415 Visit: May 6, 2018 Poutine is pretty much anywhere and everywhere in Montreal. Sometimes when you have too many options, it becomes difficult to make decisions (at least that's how it works with me). We chose this place because of the amount of reviews on Yelp.. and it was only A-OK. However, that may be our fault for ordering the "plainer" option. The grand size of "Taquise" seemed like the perfect choice for us. It was topped with tomatoes, guacamole, and sour cream. We probably should have ordered something with lots of meat and gravy, something packed with flavor. But then, I can also argue that anything with guacamole should be amazing. So I give this place a 3/5 rating, but it is worth going back to, especially since they're open 24/7! Make sure you use your google translate and get in the correct line: dine in or take out. Nacho

This past week was tough for this little guy. Since the beginning of the year, we noticed that his stomach has progressively gotten more sensitive. He did great during the move from CA to CT, then he had an episode where he vomited a couple of times at our hotel when we first arrived. Then he had a terrible night of vomiting all night one of the nights we were all moved in. He loves to eat and must have picked up something random, but no longer able to tolerate it as well in his old age. Last week we came back from Montreal and he had major problems. He's still finishing up his antibiotics and Pepcid, and just starting to have normal poops. Poor guy. He's getting lots of homemade food now and slowly mixing back his kibble (all crumbled up.) Its amazing how despite this rough week he was still in such good spirits and only really looked tired when we didn't pay attention to him. No take out for Nacho, but lots of sweet potatoes, rice and plain boiled chicken! He's

Connecticut!

It's been awhile! We moved to Connecticut so Niner can go to grad school! We've been here for almost 2 months.  So far it's snowed on us four times. Those Nor-Easters were apparently bad this year and lasted until March and April which is not typical. Now it's just raining a lot. We went to one hike at a cool park just down the street from our tiny apartment. There are cherry blossoms everywhere and we found a cute park in New Haven where they were especially abundant. Of course my allergies are acting up. We went to Montreal last week for 3 days which I hope to post about soon. Nacho has been sick since our trip and his stay at the pet hotel. We're in the process of nursing him and his sensitive belly back to normal.  So far it's been different. Mostly we've been applying for jobs. Not much luck yet. As Niner put it, they don't know how awesome we are. The lady who approved us for our apartment at least thought we were great enough to give us a unit

Kris's Graduation

My baby brother, Kris, graduated last week. It was a proud day for us all, especially for my parents - all three of their kids are done with college. Kris and I are 13 years  apart in age, so you can imagine what a momentous occasion this was. With our age difference, I've definitely felt like I've had a hand in raising him. In fact, when we were in high school, Niner and I used to talk on the phone while I fetched Kris his bottle of milk. Crazy, right? Graduation day was sunny, but beautiful. Cal State Long Beach is a very nice campus. We all cheered as loud as we could when Kris crossed the stage and accepted that piece of paper. We hung out in campus to take pictures and then celebrated with some hotpot for early dinner.    On to new adventures!

50 in Five

We've been busy over here, planning our epic road trip to all 50 states. We are quitting our jobs, packing away our stuff, and leaving in just less than TWO weeks! It's the trip we've always dreamed of. It feels so right.  We asked my cousin at Lizzi Photography to take photos at our favorite local park to document this moment. It's so special because she knows me so well and knew my vision. Plus we've never had engagement photos done. We also used props we love and that have a story: a blanket Nan crocheted Niner, Auntie Cayo's cameras, my vintage suitcase called Bomanicious..      It was hard to choose, but here are some of my faves.    Unfortunately, Nacho will not be joining us on our trip. Lucky for us, Moo has agreed to keep him for the five months; and he will have the best time there with his friend Teddy. Still, he couldn't help but join in on the fun and take photos with us! Spring Training

Heading home from our fourth Dodgers Spring Training in Arizona. Last minute, we left Thursday evening to get a head start. We stayed in Tucson which made us a bit closer to Chiricahua National Monument for a hike.  Saturday and Sunday were spent in Phoenix. We checked out a new Cactus League stadium on Satuday, as we often do, to see the Mariners in Peoria. Unlike the Dodgers stadium, they are surrounded by restaurants and shopping. It was convenient as I need to feed myself quite frequently. The same day we were at Camelback Ranch for an evening game against the White Sox. Sunday's game was back at our home stadium with the Cincinnati Reds. Niner did a great job of choosing comfy, shady seats each time. And I love how small the stadiums are that you can see so well wherever you sit. Always a good time with our boys in blue!  Each Spring Training is always a little different. LODGING Red Roof Inn, Tucson : We did a same day reservation via Priceline's express

Birthdays, birthdays, birthdays..

Had a weekend full of birthday celebrations. Had sushi lunch with Natalie on Saturday at Simi. Today we started by celebrating with the Arnold's in Burbank for Gavin's 10th birthday. He had an amazing game truck and pizza party. Then we headed to Valencia for little primo Jacob's 1st Birthday. Scooters Jungle is insanely huge. We had a room of bounce houses to ourselves.  This evening we celebrated Kris's 22nd birthday at C&O Trattoria in Venice.  Good night!
