Papa's 61st Birthday

In a few minutes, at midnight, it will be Papa's 61st birthday. We ended up back at Osaka in Glendale (we were there for Easter last week) for a buffet lunch today. Auntie Cecil and Uncle Butch, Auntie Sonia, and Mayo, Auntie Myrna and the kids were able to join us. Papa is a simple man of little request. He never fusses over anything and usually just goes with the flow. Glad we all were able to make a little celebration happen, especially since we missed his 60th last year; he and Mama were in the Philippines.  To plenty more healthy years to come. <3

Friendship can't be measured but we can start with a pound cake

We had a French dinner of fancy cheeses and steak frites tonight to celebrate Nancy's birthday. L'Assiette in Melrose was perfect and we had a nice evening with the ghetto girls and Allison. One more ghetto girl birthday to go and we'll all be 33 years old. ;)

Congratulatory Dinner

I took Niner to Mastro's Steakhouse for dinner last night as her graduation gift. She also received really great news from colleges. We had a delicious appetizer of garlic shrimp per our servers recommendation. Mastro's has the best rack of lamb we've ever had and we had that with lobster mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. And eventhough we were stuffed, we had to have their signature warm butter cake. It was a lovely dinner to begin our weekend of celebrations. And yes, we have some very important decisions to make.

Easter Weekend

We almost did everything this past Easter weekend.. Friday night was BHC Dodger Night which usually means a mini band reunion.  And of course the Arnolds were present. It was also Ed's birthday. Even got to see a little bit of Natalie too. Saturday, we went to Brokechella and had a good little time. We didn't listen to much of the music since we weren't there very long. There were a bunch of local bands. It was fun to just roam around and look at the art and eat from the food trucks. Niner and I walking on interesting art. Even got on the Brokechella hippy bus.  That evening we celebrated Ed and Mana's birthdays at the Arnold's home. Sunday we were able to spend time with family. Had lunch at Osaka with my fam and then met Moo and BeanFace for dinner at Maggiano's.  Like I said, we almost saw everyone and did everything this weekend. We are blessed. <3

Nochella

We certainly kept ourselves busy the last few days. We went back to West Hollywood last night at DBA to see a unique kind of rock musical based on Quinton Tarantino's movies.  For the Record: Tarantino was just as exciting as his movies, the acting was amazing and there was a live band! It was a surprise date from Niner and it was a fun night. I love doing new things. Tonight we went to see Kate Nash with Natalie. She rocked the small stage at The Roxy, and with her all female band. She was very high energy and lots of fun. Her band was very talented as well. Pretty good times considering we skipped out on Coachella this year. :)

Adventure Day

We spent most of the day with Natalie in Hollywood today: having lunch at La Poubelle, sipping on some Thai iced tea at the funky Bourgeois Pig and checking out a couple tattoo shops. We even fit in a little puppy time at a pet adoption center. (I wanted to take home all the puppies!) Cheers to the weekend. xx p.s. In my attempt at keeping this blog updated, enjoy these little posts, old senile, future DB. :)

Honorary Fire Chief

Dr. Richard Grossman passed away on March 13. A month later, the LAFD held a memorial and service in his honor at the LA Fire Museum. It was a beautiful service. They rang the bell for him 10 times as they would one of their fallen heroes. I always think of Dr. G as one of the kindest doctor's I've ever had the honor of working with. His passion inspired me. Seeing all sorts of people celebrate his legacy made me realize that he touched everyone's life around him. It reminded me that I need to find what I'm good at and use it to serve humanity at whatever capacity I can. This is Dr. G's Honorary Fire Chief hat that the LAFD presented him in 1994. Glad I was able to attend the service and honored to have known him, even just a little.

Early Mother's Day

Niner and I took Moo out to a Lakers game as an early Mother's Day gift. It was an exciting game and we had a cute time. Glad we were able to squeeze in seeing a game before the end of the season!

Throwback

Sometimes I wake up and miss people. Some mornings I ache for Paris.
