New England: Rhode Island

Since the days were shorter and we didn't have much daylight to work with, we decided to head straight to Rhode Island instead of taking the ferry to Martha's Vineyard. We made a stop at Newport just in time to see a magnificent view from the cliff side off of Ruggles Street. The sky was a deep pink and an indigo we've never seen before. It was a lovely walk. The drive through the neighborhoods were impressive as well. The houses in Newport were mansions.  Still talking about that beautiful view, we checked out downtown for dinner at Brick Alley Pub. The lobster Mac n Cheese was delicious! That evening we stayed at Providence. We should have gone out that evening because everywhere we wanted to eat was closed on Monday morning.  We did find our way down their Little Italy. We were in luck because Cafe Dolce Vita was the only place open that serve breakfast: $2.99 for two eggs, house fries and toast.. You can't beat that! Before we left town we drove around

New England: Cape Cod

After Boston, we began our road trip to marvel at what was left of the autumn foliage by heading east to Cape Cod. We made a quick stop at Plymouth to the see the rock, and to my surprise Mayflower II (a replica of the original) was there as well.  The sun was setting as we went back on the road, crossing the Sagamore bridge. The setting sun created a beautiful orange glow in he sky as the remaining light lit some of the golds and reds of the trees. It was great to still witness the leaves change color in Massachusetts.  We had dinner as soon as we entered Cape Cod at the little town of Sandwich. The stuffed quahog at Marshland that was featured by the Food Network was so good!  That night we stayed in West Yarmouth. In the morning we drove up the beautiful cape peninsula. We stopped at Provence to have late lunch at The Pot. We had the best and freshest seafood there. That is a cute, colorful, little town. It was colder than we were prepared for, but we walked to

New England: Boston

We took the vacation time off, hoping that we could be Dodger groupies for the World Series. Sadly, it didn't work out for our boys, but we planned this trip instead. We put together a New England road trip just less than a couple weeks ago and didn't have time enough to realize how much was in store for us. Our first 3 days so far has been an adventure! That first day, we checked in at the Onyx Hotel in downtown Boston, at the North End. It was the perfect location.  We were able to hop on the T-Train to visit Fenway Park. We had a snack at the Bleacher Bar which had a view of the inside of the stadium which was awesome to be able to see that post season. We then went back to North End, which is the Little Italy of the city to have amazing pizza at Regina Pizzeria. On our second day in Boston, we started a long day of site-seeing back at Mike's Pastries for the most amazing chocolate chip cannoli ever! We then started our walk along Th

New England: Jamaica Plain

We flew in at 7am via the red eye on Thursday morning and hit the ground running, as Niner says. It was raining but that didn't stop us from getting our trip started. We conveniently took an Uber to the Onyx Kimpton Hotel downtown, dropped off our luggage, then headed straight to our Samuel Adams Brewery Tour.  The tour was cool. We go to see the inside of the brewery and the different tanks and such that they use to brew the freshest beer that we were also able to sample quite a bit of. We got to play around with the ingredients, smell the hops, and taste the malt. After the tour, we headed to the recommended Doyle's Cafe, the first bar to serve Sam Adams beer. Niner had the OctoberFest and we shared our first of many clam chowdahs and lobsta rolls.  Only half the day done and we did so much!

Baby Maddox

On the way up to San Francisco this weekend, we stopped at San Ramon to visit Marlaina's cousin Lisa and her family. We joined them for her baby Maddox's first trip to the pumpkin patch. He's 2 months old and he has the most adorable chubby cheeks! Hope we get to see him again soon! :)
