We took the vacation time off, hoping that we could be Dodger groupies for the World Series. Sadly, it didn't work out for our boys, but we planned this trip instead. We put together a New England road trip just less than a couple weeks ago and didn't have time enough to realize how much was in store for us. Our first 3 days so far has been an adventure!
That first day, we checked in at the Onyx Hotel in downtown Boston, at the North End. It was the perfect location.
We were able to hop on the T-Train to visit Fenway Park. We had a snack at the Bleacher Bar which had a view of the inside of the stadium which was awesome to be able to see that post season.
We then went back to North End, which is the Little Italy of the city to have amazing pizza at Regina Pizzeria.
On our second day in Boston, we started a long day of site-seeing back at Mike's Pastries for the most amazing chocolate chip cannoli ever!
We then started our walk along The Freedom Trail at Paul Revere's House.
This dog tag monument honoring fallen members of the US Military from the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars was near The Old North Church.
Copp's Hill Burying Ground with a gorgeous view of the church steeple.
By that time we were hungry again and headed back to get pizza at Ernesto's while we waited for our table at Neptune Oyster.
The hour wait was so worth it! The seafood was fresh and there was a good selection of oysters. I may have had the best lobster roll there. It's hard to know when everything is so good and fresh!
From there we continued our walk and it wasn't long before we found something else awesome to stop at. Just a couple blocks down was The Green Dragon Tavern. This bar was not only a historical site, they also served Sam Adams Brick Red beer which Niner is in love with.
We followed the trail to Faneuil Hall, the site of the Boston Massacre, found a Benjamin Franklin statue at the front of the Old City Hall (which now houses a Ruth's Chris), and walked past the site of the oldest public school in the United States.
The Granary Burial Ground where many many important historical figures like Sam Adams, John Hancock, Paul Revere, the signers of the Declaration of Independence and the victims of the Boston Massacre was nice to see in the middle of the city.
We ended the day through Boston Common, across the street to the pretty Public Garden, and then had another Brick Red at the Cheers Bar which inspired the TV show.
On our last and half day in Boston, we picked up our rental car in Cambridge, conveniently a familiar Hyundai, and saw a bit of Harvard Square.
We went back to the city to see the Navy Shipyard where the USS Constitution was and went to the start of the trail at Bunker Hill.
We did so much in two full days in Boston. We loved it!
